🚗 Vehicle Crime in the UK: Stay Alert, Stay Secure

Vehicle crime continues to affect communities across London and the UK — from key less car thefts to catalytic converter removal and opportunistic break-ins. The Metropolitan Police are working hard to tackle these offences, but public awareness and prevention are key.
 

🔍 What’s Happening?

- Keyless thefts: Criminals use signal amplifiers to unlock and start cars without needing a physical key.

- Catalytic converter thefts: Targeted for precious metals, these parts are stolen in seconds.

- Smash-and-grab thefts: Valuables left in plain sight attract thieves who break windows to steal them.

- Number plate cloning: Plates are stolen and used on other vehicles to commit crimes anonymously.
 

🛡️ How You Can Protect Your Vehicle

- Use a steering wheel lock: A visible deterrent that slows down thieves.

- Install an insurance approved Thatcham Cat S5 immobiliser and tracking device: This is the highest level of security for your vehicle. Cat S7 is an approved entry level: Helps recover your vehicle if stolen.

- Keep keys away from doors/windows: Use signal-blocking pouches for keyless fobs.

- Park smart: Choose well-lit, busy areas or secure garages.

- Remove valuables: Don’t leave bags, tech, or tools in view — even for a minute.

- Secure your number plates: Use anti-theft screws to prevent cloning.
